Senior shortstop Tyson Lewis rounds the basepaths after hitting a huge triple to change the tide after being put in a 4-0 hole. Lewis had the triple but as well as two walks and a hit by pitch, and plated two runs. “Yes I have had a good start to the season, but I am always looking to get better,” Lewis said. “ Sometimes you just gotta keep your head down and focus on your craft.”

Warming up during a pitching change, then junior Nick Venteicher gets ready to close against the Millard North Mustangs. This wasn't a new situation for the junior, as Venteicher had five saves on the year and looks for more this year. “I put a lot of time this off season into the weight room,” Venteicher said. “We have a lot of returnees and newcomers this season look great. I’m excited because we play the best schedule in the state. It’s gonna be a fun ride and we got some revenge to get this season.”

Driving against the Millard North defender, junior guard Reece Carson goes for the baseline basket. Carson would finish 14 points on the night, including the huge three to tie the game. “We just have to play to our strengths sometimes,” Carson said. “When we did, we scored and took the lead. Once we did too much and tried to get too fancy, we started to struggle.”

As students do their work throughout the day, this new schedule has created an unintended problem; which one of the four schedules do I have to remember to leave class. To put it mildly, four different bell schedules messes up everything for everyone, including teachers.

Senior guard Tag Carmichael squares up against a Bellevue East defender during his game against the Chieftains. Carmichael had three points in the 58-50 win, as well as three rebounds, one assist, two steals and a block. “My job isn't always to score points,” Carmichael said. “I need to go out and fight for those rebounds, but also get the ball to our playmakers.”

Senior running back Bobby Joseph sticks out his arm to break through for a big run. Joseph would have two touchdowns against Grand Island, helping propel the Cats over Islanders. “Our game plan was definitely to run the ball as much as we could,” Joseph said. “We were more physical than them, and our offense clicked because of that.”

Streaking down the sideline while getting his first Pick-6 of his career, senior defensive back Jace Ingebretson sprints towards the endzone to put the Wildcats up 42-14 over the rival Millard North Mustangs. “I made a play at the right time,” Ingebretson said. “I gotta give credit to the guys in front, and create an open lane for me to score.”

Leading the charge on defense, senior defensive back Jon Furgeson rips through the Millard West banner. In what could be the final “Millard v Millard'' game of his football career, Furgeson was an emotional leader both on and off the field. “It was a pivotal moment for us, especially going into district play,” Furgeson said. “It was important to get that win, especially falling short against Millard South. That win felt good.”

Behrens and the Wildcat defense hit the Jays behind the line of scrimmage over ten times, and had a sack himself. “Coming into the game I wanted to blitz more,” Behrens said. “With the way the game went, I was happy I got the nod to rush after the quarterback more and more, and hope I can do it some more in future weeks.”

Phones have become a huge problem in schools, but it almost seems like instead of allowing a new learning opportunity for both students and teachers, it has instantly become shut down and seen as the biggest distraction for schools. Allowing students to hold onto their phones makes them learn self control, and would help them learn valuable skills before they go out into the real world. Photo by Logan Moseley.

During Millard West’s 74-66 loss to Elkhorn South, the Wildcats found themselves in a position to pull ahead, but were unable to do so. Junior Jordan Gassen (5), senior Zac Grandgenett (22), junior Cooper Fortune (23), senior Peyton Moore (12) and senior Jaden Giaus (14) all were crucial in the teams upset-watch game against the Storm. “We had so many close games throughout the season, each loss was a tough one every single time,” Gassen said. “I was happy we were able to finally get that win against Omaha Central. All of our seniors this year have been great teammates, and it was a pleasure playing with them, and I will miss you next year”. Though the team went 8-15, there is still a lot of promise going into next year.

Matt Rhule, the newly hired head coach for Nebraska Football, was the first of many in this year's head coaching cycle. Other coaches that were hired, and potentially in the eyes of athletic director Trev Alberts include Deion Sanders (Colorado), Hugh Freeze (Auburn) and Luke Fickell (Wisconsin) to name a few. However, Rhule brings the highest floor compared to those coaches, as he has built programs from the ground up, and leaving it in good hands if, or when, he leaves. Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder (left) and Phoenix Suns owner Rovert Sarver (right) have been in the news for all of the wrong reasons. The environment they have created for their team has negatively impacted their respective leagues. The worst part is these are just two more recent examples. Former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling was accused of similar actions between both Snyder and Sarver. Both LA football team owners Dean Spanos and Stan Kronke have made controversial decisions, with the Rams being sued by the city of STL. Louis and being forced to pay for their move to the city of angels. All of these owners and more have shown that the owners of some of the most profitable entities in the world, cannot control and use their power for good.

For their final home game of the season, the Millard West Wildcats (green) took on the Bryan Bears (white) in a senior night matchup. After the half, many of the younger players got more experience playing valuable snaps. “Just coaching up the younger guys and giving them pointers is big,” senior linebacker Reid Hazen said. “All you can really do (when not playing) is coach them up and try and help them out as much as you can.” Millard West will continue their five game win streak against Lincoln Southwest on Oct. 28, at Seacrest Field in Lincoln.

Two years later, he's made improvements he wouldn't have anywhere else. “My boss at KRVN Jayson Jorgenson has impacted me the most,” Willis said. “If you listen to how I sound and broadcast a game before I started working there and after, it has completely changed. A career winning percentage of .340 is never good, but when you take a previously winless team such as the University of Central Florida Knights, and even as far as claiming the National Championship in 2017, you would expect nothing but the best for the new program that he would be running. What followed suit was five straight losing seasons, and a man 15 million dollars richer. Urban Meyer (bottom left), Thomas Brown (top left) and Matt Campbell (top right) all could bring the program back to relevance, something the Nebraska native couldn’t do.
