Senior Nicklaus Wright loads in stride as he takes the batter’s box. The Unified softball game was just about to get underway on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon. ‘’I had a lot of fun in this game, and batting was my favorite part,’’  Wright said. ‘’It was cool that I got to pitch for my team.’’

Swinging for success

Freshman Landen Swift crouches down in his stance during the District game he umpired that was between Omaha Northwest and Omaha Benson. This experience was a worthwhile one for Swift, as he go a chance to umpire a big event. “My feelings before a big event is to just go out and call the game like any other game,” Swift said. “I do get a little nervous sometimes during the game when a coach questions my call but never doubt myself because they question it.”

Paving the way for youth officials

Wallor pitched in the first inning, trying to get as many outs as possible, and trying to produce weak hits. Overall, Waller gave up five hits over three innings while giving up four earned runs. “I wanted to try and keep the innings as short as possible to try and limit the amount of runs,” Wallor said. “Coming back in for relief I kinda knew what to expect with Millard North's hitting so I was more prepared.”

Pretending to rip open his shirt like Superman, sophomore Nicklaus Wright cheers himself on as he gets his name announced for the unified game. Wright had just finished cheering on his fellow classmates during the buddy game and was ready for his turn to play. “We played really well because we practiced very hard before our game,” Wright said. “We made sure we were ready to play and have fun before the game.”

Senior Ava Rongisch had a clutch two run single to tie up the game in the third inning. Although the Wildcats ended up losing this game, it taught them plenty of lessons they can use during the last few games of the season. “These last few games we can work on playing through adversity and when things aren’t going well, and how we respond,” Rongisch said. “The game is all about failure, but it’s what you do after that’ll make you better.”

Wildcats can’t keep up with Monarchs

Senior Bella Bacon is ready to get the 2nd out in the first inning for Millard West in their first game in the Papillion La-Vista South Tournament. These girls go on to place third in this tournament leaving them with a 8-4 record so far in this season. “I felt ready to get the job done,” Bacon said. “We had a game plan to attack when we needed to."

With her knees bent and her glove open and facing down, sophomore Kaitlyn Fisher prepares to field the ball. The Wildcats defeated Papillion-La Vista South 13-5 on Aug 19. “Defensively, I think that we've really started to settle into our positions and we're playing really solid,” Fisher said. “We've had big moments of adversity already this season that we've had to overcome and I really think that it's pushed us all to become better players out there.”
