Marching for the community

Projecting their voices, students from a dozen schools across the state spread awareness of the importance of theater. When advocating for theater, the students fight for every thespian in Nebraska to have equal funds to support their theater programs. “We met with our state senators to recognize theater as an important part of education, ” junior Isaiah Helenthal said. “ I contacted my senator and we asked to make an appointment to talk about theater, also how it affects us in hopes they recognize how impactful it can be, to students' lives, and the importance of theater education.”

Giving blood to the community, Math teacher Rebecca Bauman gets her blood drawn. The annual Red Cross blood drive comes to Millard West, receiving many donations. Millard West impacts the community when students, teachers and Millard families donate to save others lives. “Giving blood helps to save other peoples lives.” Bauman said. “It is a quick and easy process and a good way to give back.”

Junior Rami Hanash plays bingo with residents at Walnut Grove Retirement Community. Millard West Student Council visits there frequently and this year they also held a Halloween Bingo. "They absolutely love seeing our faces and talking to us," senior and Student Council president Olivia Oeth said. "We bring a good variety of people there to interact with the residents."
