The philharmonic and symphonic orchestras gather together to perform one last time for the season.“The second we started playing, I immediately started thinking about everyone who I’ve played next to and every memory that made [orchestra] that much better,” senior Josephine Geiger-Lee said. “It was bittersweet because the orchestra has changed so much, but also, I’m so proud of everything everyone has accomplished.”

Plucking at the heartstrings

Members of the symphony orchestra sit waiting to start their next song. “Students, in general, were pleased to have the opportunity to finally perform for a live audience, and I havent heard any complaints regarding the safety of students and audience members at the event,” senior Luke Skrabal said. “I am glad to see that live performances are happening once again because music lifts peoples spirits and provides an escape from the difficulties of life under COVID.”

Junior Alexander Martinelli practices the flute for the Millard West Band. He started playing the flute in elementary school and has kept with it since. It feels really nice to have a skill that you have improved, Martinelli said. If you find a song thats interesting and you know the instrument, then sometimes just playing through it is really fun.
