Sets and costumes have been packed away, and music has been turned off after a busy weekend in Fairfield Ohio, Millard west show choir arrived home on March 8th with tired eyes and smiles on their faces marking the end of their 2025-2026 season.
Before a day full of dancing, singing, and pressure the three groups consisting of West In the Groove, Uptown, and Swing Cats, spent Friday exploring Ohio and the community.
They took stops at the Underground Railroad National Freedom Center, Lunch at Buca Di Beppos, Museum of National History and Science, and Kenwood Town Center.
“It was really fun and I really enjoyed it,” freshman Annelise Johnson said. “It was a really great experience to go out of state with my team” .
Director Zack Bjornsen also noted that traveling with almost 150 kids and lots of equipment to keep track of can be challenging, but it is very worth it.
“I always really enjoy traveling and the day before the competition when we go see new things and experiences.” Bjornsen said.
The competition in Fairfield offered lots of different opportunities and experiences with the Unique Judging and scoring, and the intensity of the stage where they were competing.
For these Nebraska students, it was a different and exciting experience.
“I think it was the most intense competition we had been to,” junior Natalieryen Rockwell said. “Not just our competitors, but also the atmosphere of the arena was crazy”.
Sophomore Teagan Kleinsasser also noted that he loved the stage and getting to perform in such an exceptional stage.
“I thought the competition was really cool and the school was fun to explore,” Kleinsasser said, “It was cool to perform on such a unique stage.”
