On Tuesday, March 24, all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will be simultaneously taking versions of the ACT test at 8 a.m. “A student’s score on the ACT could help with course placement in college, career planning, and more.” Says Assistant Principal Mark Hilburn. “It’s a key metric in college admissions, shows academic readiness, and can be the deciding factor in many merit-based scholarship decisions.”
Juniors will take the traditional paper-and-pencil ACT, while sophomores and freshmen will take the test online.
“In the digital environment we are in, you see more and more things moving online. Testing online also allows for more flexibility and test security,” Dr. Mark Hilburn, assistant principal, said.
Students who are participating should make sure they have a photo ID or their student ID available on StudentVue. More information on room assignments is posted in the grade-level Google Classrooms.
To participate in testing, freshmen and sophomores must bring a charged laptop and charger, at least two #2 pencils, and a snack and/or drink to consume between tests 2 and 3, as lunch will not be served. A laptop is the only electronic device that students will be allowed to have on hand. Any other devices, including phones, smartwatches, AirPods, Meta glasses, etc., are not allowed and must be turned in before testing begins.
Once testing has commenced, supervisors and proctors will monitor each room. Remember that once time has been called, do not, for any reason, continue to bubble in answers. Doing so will invalidate tests, and students will no longer be allowed to continue. If students are found to be using any electronic device other than their school laptop, the consequences will be the same.
Freshmen and sophomores will be finished at approximately 11:45 a.m. Juniors will be finished at approximately 12:30 p.m. For those who rely on the bus, buses will depart at 12:45 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to accommodate different testing times.
