August and September are the biggest months for the Student Council because Homecoming is just around the corner on September 21st from 7 pm to 10 pm. These students have a full schedule of planning, designing and setting up.
This year the Homecoming theme is Under the Sea and every student in the Student Council has chosen and picked out which areas of the school they want to decorate to make the theme come to life.
“It’s a lot of team and group work but it’s fun,” sophomore Mitch Fisher said. “We work as a team and share our ideas to help better the environment of the school.”
Student Council members can apply to be an officer which helps lead the group. With leading, student council members meet after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays to create their decorations.
“Since I’m an officer, we meet every Wednesday and Friday to help people get engaged,” sophomore Lillian Gentleman said. “We have everyone get into groups and we figure out our strengths to make setting up for Homecoming more efficient.”
While students are mostly the ones planning this event, Student Council sponsor Alli Bragg has been a part of this program for ten years, throwing out ideas and watching her students take charge to create one of the biggest events for our students.
“I like working with my students,” Bragg said. “We are at the meetings but just there to advise and help throw out ideas. Eventually, we will be there to supervise the dance.”
When it’s all said and done our Student Council has done a tremendous job of turning the school into an underwater experience for everyone to enjoy. You can purchase tickets on Synergy or if you’re bringing someone from another school, you can purchase them at a table during lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday homecoming week.
