Donating in memory

Sophomore Emma Perman gives stuffed animals to a HOSA member, sophomore Emma McGargill. It’s just a good thing to do because whoever is receiving them will be really happy and it’s good to help out kids who might not be as fortunate and as healthy as me, Perman said. I’m really glad I got to participate in the stuffed animal drive.

The first blood drive of the year went fairly smoothly, not many people had issues with the donating process. The blood drive went ok, junior Olivia Orr said. We didn’t get a lot of people who had problems donating but we also didn’t reach our goal of how many people we had donate. Although we did get a lot of donors.

Donating blood for the first time, senior Luke Hudek participates in the spring blood drive. Walking into the drive with no experience, Hudek’s emotions flexuated but was surprised by the ease that came with donating. “Overall, I had a good experience, and it’ll be very beneficial to keep donating,” Hudek said. “I want to donate in the future because nothing bad can happen to me and only good things can happen to people who need the blood.”

For her last competition, senior Eva Gould competed in the dental science category. “In under 30 minutes I had to disinfect an entire dental clinic,” Gould said. “I used different tools, chemicals, and bi products to make sure that I did the job correctly. I had only a few minutes left on the clock before I finished my work and presented it to the judges.”

Giving blood to the community, Math teacher Rebecca Bauman gets her blood drawn. The annual Red Cross blood drive comes to Millard West, receiving many donations. Millard West impacts the community when students, teachers and Millard families donate to save others lives. “Giving blood helps to save other peoples lives.” Bauman said. “It is a quick and easy process and a good way to give back.”
