The first half of the game was slower paced for the Wildcats. Many of the players recognized this and immediately changed their game play. “At halftime we talked about trying to apply more pressure,” coach Marc Kruger said. “We tried to speed up the pace of the game and we needed to do a better job of rebounding the ball on both ends.”

West keeps winning

Moore finished the game with four points in the 70-31 loss. “Our goals have not changed,” head coach Bill Morrison said. “We want to be playing our best basketball at the end of the year so we have a chance to win our district.”

Junior Elizabeth Hoffman looks to find her open teammate. She helped the Wildcats capture their second straight win by notching eight points, four assists, and three rebounds. The Wildcats will look to continue their strong run tonight against Millard North. “We just need to continue to improve both our defense and offense,” Hoffman said. “Weve been doing a good job of knowing who we need to focus on defensively on other teams, and we also need to continue to figure out what kinds of offense will work against other teams defenses.”

Although the Wildcats led after the first quarter, the team dropped their third consecutive game and will look to rebound against Westside. “As a team, we need to be physically and mentally prepared to have a solid start against Westside on Friday,” Kolar said. “We need to work together and manage their pressure to give us our best shot at getting the win.”

The Wildcats had a fast start to the game. They came out with confidence and ready to play. “Going into this game we were all ready to play,” junior Grace Kelley said. “Since this game had previously been postponed and rescheduled, we had a lot of time to prepare for this team. We felt confident in our scout and game plan.”

Wildcats fall short

The Wildcats had a rough start at the beginning of the game. Although they struggled early on, they were able to still battle it out for the win. “At the start of the game we definitely could have limited the amount of threes and open looks they got and made,” senior Cole Kirschner said. “We did a good job making free throws but thats about it. I personally think it was an ugly game for all of us but we still came out on top.”

Millard West utilized a fast offensive start and a lot of energy to boost them to a win over Roncalli, with a tough game coming up against Bellevue West they will need all the momentum they can get. “We really came out with energy after not playing on Friday,” Moore said. “We are going to try and carry this little bit of momentum we have got right now and have a great week of practice and prepare for Bellevue West.”

Junior Peyton Moore looks for a path to the basket, he totaled 11 points on two of three shooting from the field, as well as sinking seven free throws. Although the Wildcats offense was able to put up a decent amount of points, a tough third quarter both offensively and defensively hindered the Wildcats chances to come away with a victory. “They came out in the second half with a lot of energy and they used that to their advantage,” Moore said. “We also had some empty offensive possessions in the third and they also took advantage of that.”

The previous night, the boys basketball team battled against Bellevue East and won 53-28. “I think the guys knew that the Prep game would be much more difficult, but they were confident,” head coach William Morrison said.” “They may have been a little nervous playing in front of their crowd. We did some good things in the first half but couldnt make any shots.”
