Senior Jordan Gassen gets ready to shoot his free throws after being fouled. The Wildcats needed all the points they could get after being down in their game against Lincoln East. ‘’Being efficient at the line is important for my game,’’ Gassen said. ‘’The points add up in the end and it’ll be important for us to be able to make these if we want to compete this year.’’

Near the point, senior defenseman Eddie Patchen readies to fire his one-timer shot. Patchen picked up his third goal of the season en route to Millard West’s 5-2 overpowering of Fremont. “We need to take our practices seriously while also just staying loose and not putting too much pressure on ourselves,” Patchen said. “Our next game is against Prep, so we just need to prepare ourselves for that game.”

Hitting the ball over the net, senior Kaelin Pribyl tries to avoid the block from Bell West. In the District Championship, the Wildcats lost to the T-Birds 3-1. Our strengths throughout the game were staying in system with out passing, which keeps all hitters available as an option, and staying disciplined with our blocking against their biggest hitter, Pribyl said. We knew they were a great team but we didnt let that stop us from playing to win, rather than playing to not lose.

Senior Ayda Matya (left of center) looks forward to continuing on with cheer after high school. With the new tier, many new opportunities are available to the team. “I feel like we need to have a lot more trust in the team,” Matya said. “Because we’re not just having someone at shoulder length anymore. It’s a lot more risky if someone falls, so we need to trust each other and strengthen bonds.”

Senior running back Bobby Joseph sticks out his arm to break through for a big run. Joseph would have two touchdowns against Grand Island, helping propel the Cats over Islanders. “Our game plan was definitely to run the ball as much as we could,” Joseph said. “We were more physical than them, and our offense clicked because of that.”

Denying a shot in warmups, senior netminder Seamus Bygrave prepares for the game against Elkhorn. Bygrave picked up his second shutout of the season where he was only tested with six shots. “We have to carry our momentum over,” Bygrave said. The first three games have gone very well, and continuing a good forecheck, and producing are our keys to success. I have to be sure I’m prepared to face a lot of shots at any time because you never really know when you may get bombarded with shots during a game.”

Girls wrestling assistant coach James Ferguson came back from Greece competing in the Veterans World Championships back in October. In his division, he placed second in the greco-roman style of wrestling. He trained his mind and body for months leading up to the competition, and it paid off. “It’s an amazing feeling being invited,” James Fergsuon said. “I’m 44, I was invited to this competition in high school as a junior as well. Looking back, it’s nostalgic, it feels like a dream.”
