Millard West lacrosse has been working on some key skills to try and put into their games. Aside from all the plays and formations they also continue to work on basics. “We have been working on those essential fundamentals during practice and slowly transitioning them into the games,” sophomore Drew Holdsworth said. “I believe I did well on my face-offs and did my part in getting the ball to my shorty or LSM.

This offseason Lu played on a club team to continue to stay sharp and improve his skills. “I play club so I don’t really have an off-season,” Lu said. “We won state in the fall and we’ve been traveling to places like Phoenix, St. Louis, and South Carolina to play better teams and get more exposure.”

For sophomore Noah Blair, so much time and effort was put into his state run, both mentally and physically. In his Instagram bio, a simple message. #LLAS. “LLAS is for a buddy of mine who passed away this past season,” Blair said. “Him and I grew up wrestling together and competing against each other.” With the motivation to win it for his friend, Blair’s story will surely be one for people to look up to for years to come.

They were less concise and not as swift with their dodges. “We were able to talk before the game on the stuff that needed to be worked on from Saturdays play,” senior Nathan Kozisek said. “After that we were able to pick up pace and play much better.”

This off season Novotny worked on blocking out the noise and focusing while on the mound. “One of my biggest focuses this off season has been blocking out everything on the mound and really being able to zone in and focus for the whole time I’m on the mound.”

Although the outcome wasn’t what the Wildcats hoped, they still fought all game and tried their hardest. They had some issues to work out, but the team mostly did all the right things. “The team did an excellent job looking for the weak guy,” sophomore Bryce Kriha said. “This would allow us to break out the puck, and cause a turnover. We also had great communication and stayed hyped up all game.”

Blair wrestled through four different matches en route to capturing the 182 pound weight class state title. “Yes, absolutely I was confident,” Blair said. “As a freshman I got third at the state tournament and won districts. Im always excited to compete and its a blessing to have the opportunity to even walk or breathe right.”
