Following a kill, senior Hayden Hart celebrates with her teammates. Hart played a crucial role and racked up several kills en route to the Wildcats sweep of the Titans. “We need to leverage the confidence and momentum we gained from that win,” Hart said. “Continuing to refine our skills on the court and focus on consistency by maintaining strong team culture and staying dedicated during practices will help us continue to grow as a team.”

Senior Sierra Pokharel plays her third season on varsity. This year she was named as one of the team captains making it her 2nd straight year as a captain for the team. “One big thing that helps me deal with the pressure and expectations is to enjoy and experience it,” Pokharel said. “I know after the season is over I will give anything to go back to high school and play this kind of volleyball so although a lot of pressure is on me, it’s also a privilege and I would not want it any other way.”

In the first match of the season, sophomore Aubrey Pinkston passes the ball the sophomore Evie Laferla to spike it over the net. All the players competed in a scrimmage starting with the reserve team against the freshman team, and Pinkston played as a setter to try to win the victory. “Volleyball brings me excitement during the games or when we score,” Pinkston said. “On the downside, I may feel pressured and nervous.”

Hitting the ball over the net, senior Kaelin Pribyl tries to avoid the block from Bell West. In the District Championship, the Wildcats lost to the T-Birds 3-1. "Our strengths throughout the game were staying in system with out passing, which keeps all hitters available as an option, and staying disciplined with our blocking against their biggest hitter," Pribyl said. "We knew they were a great team but we didn't let that stop us from playing to win, rather than playing to not lose."

From that, Pockharel set the sike up. “I think the win was something that we really needed. We had been losing for a while,” Kerkman said. “ We had played them before and last time they beat us and we had to beat them this time.”

Watching the stands fill up for Volleyball Day, senior Kaelin Pribyl stopped to snap a pic before the stadium got too busy. On Aug. 30, Nebraska beat the world record with an attendance of 92,003 people. "These types of moments help bring more attention to women's sports, which allows them to receive the respect they deserved a long time ago," Pribyl said. "The video tributes were what I enjoyed most about the game because they were videos of players talking about what this opportunity means for them personally and how it impacts sports all together."
