Lillian is a sophomore and this is her first year on staff. She loves being involved in the school as she participates in show choir (Uptown), Tri-M, and Millard West FCA. Writing stories and photography are some of her favorite things, and she hopes to entertain readers as she improves her writing skills throughout the year.

Ziplining through the Costa Rican trees, sophomore Aubrey Kirk enjoys many tourist attractions on her six-day vacation. Along with the humid air, Kirk was amused by the many astonishing opportunities the country had to offer. “We found that there were more opportunities to look at wildlife than other places,” Kirk said. “My favorite part was definitely when we fed the monkeys on the beach.”

Standing outside the aquarium in the Henry Doorly Zoo, Millard West students spend the day showing the German exchange students a place that is near and dear to their hearts. Upon their arrival, the students worked together to brainstorm ideas on where they could take the Germans. “I decided to house a German student because I wanted an opportunity to meet new people from a different country and to give them experiences they've never had,” senior Jersey Retzlaff said. “The best part has been being able to go out and do things with new people I've never hung out with before.”

In a hurry to finish the race, junior Nathan Biles cycles on the course representing Millard West’s mountain biking team. Biles built a sturdy bike from scratch, from his many rough drafts to finally experiencing his finished product on the courses. “Somehow this bike was faster than the one I normally race on,” Nathan Biles said. “It had impressive riding characteristics and performs 100 times better than imagined other than a bit too much flex.”

Before the run begins, senior Chloe Teter and junior Montana Chronister pose for a picture with the handmade signs they made to cheer on the kids. Children dressed up as superheroes for the run to demonstrate the strength people have when fighting through Congenital Heart Disease. “I decided to participate with DECA for the Heart Hero Run because I wanted to volunteer and have fun with the kids with fun activities,” junior Montana Chronister said. “Heart Heroes impacted me because it was so great to see such a close community of people supporting one another.”

During the round, sophomore Jaelynn Moody takes a swing toward the golf ball. The team warmed up at the range and met to talk about their daily goals for the tournament ahead. ”My favorite thing about golf is my teammates for sure,” Moody said. “ I also love being able to meet a couple people from different schools and then getting to play against them.”

Students split into groups to discuss the message of salvation and how it applies to their lives. They eat snacks, get to know each other and by sharing their stories they can walk together in the tough journey of life through God. “My favorite part about FCA is discussing and processing God's word with others,” sophomore Brianna Jochims said. “And also the fellowship of all the Christians that gather together.”

In the first match of the season, sophomore Aubrey Pinkston passes the ball the sophomore Evie Laferla to spike it over the net. All the players competed in a scrimmage starting with the reserve team against the freshman team, and Pinkston played as a setter to try to win the victory. “Volleyball brings me excitement during the games or when we score,” Pinkston said. “On the downside, I may feel pressured and nervous.”
