Hitting the ball over the net, senior Kaelin Pribyl tries to avoid the block from Bell West. In the District Championship, the Wildcats lost to the T-Birds 3-1. Our strengths throughout the game were staying in system with out passing, which keeps all hitters available as an option, and staying disciplined with our blocking against their biggest hitter, Pribyl said. We knew they were a great team but we didnt let that stop us from playing to win, rather than playing to not lose.

Junior Taylor Hansen scores a layup to help Millard West pull away for Omaha Westside. Hansen was able to consistently find ways to beat Westside from every part of the court. She ended up finishing the game with 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals. “Throughout the game, I tried to stay really confident,” Hansen said. “I think our team needed confidence in this game because we all knew that the stakes were high. I knew that we needed to play our best game so that we could continue our season. I also knew that it was important to win so that our Seniors could experience a win for their last home game ever.”

The Wildcats celebrate a big win earlier in the season against Millard North. This year the Cats finished with a regular season record of 24-5, and they will be a number one seed in their District tournament bracket, however there is always room for improvement. “I think we need to score more runs in the middle innings,” senior Sam Novotny said. “We usually put up runs in the first and last couple innings but I think it would really help if we could put a few more runs on the scoreboard for the middle innings and put more pressure on the other team.”

The Wildcats swept their way through Districts, advancing to the state tournament. “I am a bit nervous for state, but my mindset going in is to just have fun,” senior Sadie Millard said. “It’s my last time playing volleyball for Millard West and is going to be the end of my volleyball career overall, so no matter the outcome I want to have the time of my life on the court.”
