Kendra Thunker spends time teaching her students during the last week of school before summer break. Her time off will be well spent with her family and her kids throughout the next few years. “I’m grateful for my experience and the opportunities that teaching at Millard West offered me,” Thunker said. “Leaving will be extremely hard, but it’ll be time well spent with my family as well as the twins when the time comes.”

Millard West runners compete to win at the annual Metro Tournament that was held at Bryan High School. Millard West placing second at Metros gives the coaches and athletes an idea of what they need to work on for Districts. “Our coaches are helping us prepare for Districts, both mentally and physically,” junior Presly Bengtson said. “We are working harder in practices and now that Metros are over, we are able to work on what we need to in order to do well at Districts."

Sophomore Alix Kahler saves many shots on goal while playing for the JV Soccer team in the first half of their game against Millard North. For the first game of the Millard South Invitational, Kahler helped the JV team by swinging down and giving them an extra set of fresh hands in goal. “I haven’t practiced with JV this year, but every time that I swing for games they all have a positive attitude and a lot of energy enabling them to win against any team that they’ve faced this year,” Kahler said. “I think that the Millard South Invitational will end in our favor knowing that Mrs. Radtke and the captains are natural leaders in guiding the team to victory.”

Third Grade teacher, Gina Hill, teaches her students the reason behind the #BeKind campaign while they work on different projects. Her class, along with two other third grade classes finished writing letters to all the high school students in the 32 & Above Club. “I would love to recruit more people to do this in the future,” Hill said. “I didn’t realize the undertaking of it because I didn’t know how many high school students were in the 32 & Above Club. It would be great to start getting more people involved. The more the merrier.”

Some Girl Scouts like to be a part of troops that do many activities in order to fill their sashes or vests with badges. Badges were gained after the girls learned something new or after they had finished a new activity that benefits a large group of people. "I always helped out with every activity that my troop did because I liked to know that I was benefitting people out in the community," Kelly said. "Winning badges was fun because it was another way to get rewarded when we helped out. Many girls got more involved when they found out about the badges and other rewards."
