Many Millard West Wildcats claim to be Huskers fans though many don’t know the name Prince Amukamara, though the die-hard fans recognize the name for the players contribution and impact on the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
In 2007, Prince Amukamara signed with the Nebraska Cornhuskers and continued his football career that eventually led him to the NFL.
Known for his leadership and defensive skills, Amukamara became a First-team All-American and team captain before being drafted by the New York Giants in the first round.
After nearly a decade in the NFL and a Super Bowl victory, his journey has now taken a new direction, one focused on inspiring the next generation.
“I’ve always had a passion for the next generation, I have been given so much, I feel it’s almost my responsibility to prepare it and pass it down to them,” Amukamara said.
During his professional career, Amukamara played for teams including the New York Giants, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints.
As a defensive cornerback, he built a reputation for discipline, competitiveness, compassion on and off the field.
“I learned a lot of life lessons through sports. I have learned about authority through coaches. Respecting my coaches and trusting what they say. Not talking back was important,” Amukamara said, “ I also learned about discipline on the field and in the classroom.”
His time in the league not only showcased his athletic ability but also shaped the values he carries into life after football.
Since retiring, Amukamara has shifted his focus away from competition and toward making an impact in a different way. In April 2024, he launched his Youtube channel, Mr. Aadventures, with the goal of promoting healthy living for kids after his own health journey in his career.
“There was a lot of pressure on me to be the best or be what the team thought I was when I first got drafted, but I kept getting hurt,” Amukamara said. “I started to realize I am not giving myself the best chance to be the best player I want to be because of my nutrition. I had to stop eating out and stop high sugar intakes. Though that’s when I realized my passion for nutrition.”
Through engaging content he encourages young audiences to stay active, make good choices, and have positive habitats.
This platform is not the only way Amukamara inspires the new generation. The Others Foundation created by Amukamara inspires kids all over the community that they are important.
“My heart breaks for others, people other than yourself that may not look or act like you, vote the same way you do, or dress the same as you. People who are different from you,” Amukamara said. “With the foundation we try to identify a particular group that we want to help.”
Prince inspires many and helps kids realize their potential. Though like most we learn from our own experiences.
“Breaking away from football was hard. I had been this person this whole time,” Amukamra said, “When you are done though you realize people might not look at me the same or I might even be forgotten.”
Amukamara commented on the realization he later gained.
“Though I gained an understanding that I am more than a football player. I am a husband. I am a father. I am a mentor,” Amukamara said.
Amukamara and his contribution to the team is still talked about by many.
“I really enjoyed watching him play for the Chicago Bears. He got us a game sealing pick six against the Seahawks which gave the Bears first win of the season. He was a great veteran to have on defense.” Senior, Owen Odegard said.
Amukamra is continuing to influence people of all ages through his content and programs offering many people opportunities that they never imagined they would be able to afford.
