With summer approaching, upper and underclassmen alike are getting antsy for the end of the school year, and with it, Prom season.
Prom is a fun and exciting way to express yourself in elegant attire and treat yourself and those you care about. However, with such a congregation of students and chaperones, rules must be set and followed to ensure a positive experience for everyone involved.
This year, our Prom is hosted at CHI Health Center, meaning it is our responsibility as associates of Millard West to show respect to the facilities lended to us. This means, but is not limited to, staying in the designated ballroom, cleaning up after yourself and others, and respecting the work that goes into making the space suitable for a night of Prom fun.
After 10 p.m., students and their guests are invited to return to Millard West for a post Prom experience, including concessions, games, and even two gyms full of bouncy houses and other exciting activities. The goal of post Prom is to discourage students from after-partying on their own and possibly engaging in less than legal activities. It’s important to celebrate responsibly, and to keep your judgement unimpaired throughout the night.
In 2024, the KETV Newswatch 7 crew demonstrated a simulated car crash for upperclassmen from Westside High School. The crash was built to be a cautionary tale not only for those who may be driving under the influence, but to all sober drivers, reminding them to keep their eyes out, especially on such a special night.
While attendees are expected and encouraged to dress to the nines for the Prom itself, many might find it preferable to change into something a bit more breathable for the various activities planned for post Prom. The post Prom committee has planned a memorable event for us this year, themed around Clue: The Murder Mystery.
As always, the most important thing is to have fun and cheer on your friends and fellow students. This opportunity only comes a few times to each person, and it’s imperative that we all do our part to make this special night fun and enjoyable for everyone.
