As we begin the month of December, people all across the world are getting ready for the celebration of Christmas. People set up lights, door tags, yard displays, play music, and much more. There is one part of Christmas that is always a key part of getting into the holiday spirit and that is watching Christmas movies. Many people like a variety of Christmas movies and have their own opinions about what are the best movies and what are the bottom-of-the-barrel movies.
Currently, most people’s favorite Christmas movies range from movies like “Elf”, “Polar Express”, “Home Alone”, “Die Hard” and many more. But I have a different opinion about Christmas movies and which ones are my favorite. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the top 5 best Christmas movies are “Miracle on 34 Street”, “Tangerine”, “The Holdovers”, “The Shop Around the Corner” and “Meet Me in St. Louis”. I have never heard of any of these movies before, so here is my Top 5 list of Christmas movies.
“A Charlie Brown Christmas” is at the 5 spot. This movie is very nostalgic and I like the style of animation it was made in. The movie also helps bring some Christmas cheer with all the nice heartwarming scenes. The best part of the movie with Charlie Brown looking at and singing with his small tree is one of the most iconic scenes in Christmas movies. I would rate this movie 7/10. The only reason I give it a seven is because it is kind of short for a “movie”, but regardless this movie is a classic.
“Home Alone” is at the 4 spot. Most people will say this is their favorite Christmas movie, but in my opinion, it is a great movie and a classic to watch with the family, but there are better movies. I don’t even think this is the best movie in the “Home Alone” series. This movie is still a must-watch and I always plan on watching it when the holiday season rolls around. I give this movie a 7.5/10. Great movie but there are better movies out there.
“Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” is at the 3 spot. This movie is the best in the franchise and is a great watch more like a December night or day. The reason I have it over the original Home Alone is that I like the New York aesthetic of the movie instead of the main scenes being at Kevin’s house like in the first “Home Alone”. Both Home Alones are great movies, but the 2nd Home Alone is just way better in my opinion. I give this movie an 8/10.
“Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas” is at the 2 spot. Most people will think I’m crazy to put this movie in the second spot, but I just love the meanings it portrays as well and the old Disney cartoon style is the best thing ever. The movie is about an hour or so long, but has three different stories in it and all three of them are great, but my favorite is probably the Mickey Mouse one or the Donald Duck one. I give this movie a 9/10. While most people probably have never watched this movie before, I think it is a must-watch especially if you are lacking some Christmas Spirit.
“A Christmas Story” is the best Christmas movie of all time. This movie is one of my favorite movies ever and I enjoy watching this movie during the Christmas season. I also really like the Chicago and northern Indiana aesthetic of the movie and the settings the scenes take place in help you feel immersed in the movie with the characters and plots. And I had a BB gun as a kid and the main plot of the movie is about Ralphie wanting a BB gun and I feel like that helped me connect and little more with the movie as well. I give this movie a 10/10, everybody wanting to make a great Christmas movie should take notes from “A Christmas Story”.
Christmas time is a great time to catch up with your family and also catch up with some holiday favorite movies. My top five Christmas movies are “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, “Home Alone”, “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York”, “Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas”, and “A Christmas Story”. These movies are best in my opinion to watch around the holiday season.
