Recently, a healthy cafe set up shop here in Millard. Cafe Botanica has many choices from smoothies to wraps. I think that the food is quite bland and does not have a whole lot of good options.
Checking out the About on the Cafe Botanica website, it states that they split off from a national franchise around four years ago. They also claim to be sourced locally while having low prices. This company they split from is Clean Juice, which can be surmised because the current Cafe Botanica restaurants are rebranded Clean Juice restaurants. However, that’s where the similarities stop because the food opinions are quite different. Cafe Botanica has much more variety in its food options while Clean Juice focuses on smoothies and juices.
On my visit to Cafe Botanica, I ordered the Superfruit smoothie and the Egg & Cheese wrap.
The smoothie was a delicious mix of strawberry, blueberry, banana, apple, acai, honey and coconut water. Most of the flavor comes from the strawberry and blueberry so the other ingredients were kind of unnecessary.
The description of Egg & Cheese wrap sounded like a fantastic mix of cheese and eggs, except what I received was quite underwhelming. The whole wheat tortilla was steaming, but the interior was cold, which made it have an interesting contrast. The avocado was very dominant while the cheese and egg were non-existent, which left the wrap tasting like a salad.
Both the smoothie and the Egg and cheese wrap cost around $20. They are marginally better than other health restaurants.
The food was a mixed bag, but I did not try the popular opinions so I would be shocked. What also surprised me was that the interior, which is cozy and warm, felt more cold than anything else. Gray along the walls with a few green decorations. It didn’t feel like what was described in the About section.
I would say Cafe Botanica is mostly mediocre compared to the competition, but I can find charm in it being a locally-owned business that has a bright future. I would recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for a new healthy food option. 7/10
