In Room 411, where the notes of determination resonate, Millard West’s band achieved an extraordinary feat by clinching the NSAA state championship, on their home turf, in back-to-back years.
A harmonious blend of talent, discipline and unwavering commitment propelled this ensemble to musical heights, leaving an indelible mark on the school’s legacy. A band that has gone through highs and lows throughout the 2022-2023 school year
Senior Blake Kahler, a part of the band’s drumline, expressed his sincere gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of this amazing piece of history
“It feels great to get some hardware after hours of working on our craft,” Kahler said. “The whole band was ecstatic, not just me.”
For Senior Arqui Halsey, the band isn’t just a musical ensemble, it’s a cherished family. Being a part of this group goes beyond beats and rhythms.
“You spend so much time with these people, nine or ten hours a day is bound to make a strong relationship,” Halsey said. “This process has truly brought us together more than I expected it to ever do.”
Senior Matison McLaughlin, a part of the great Color Guard crew that had been put together over the past three or four years, was happy to leave an impression that will remain forever at Millard West that no one else had ever done.
“Being the first to ever go back to back is pretty awesome,” McLaughlin said. “I mean, no one else here can say that and it’s cool to know that we’re part of such an exclusive group.”
As the final crescendo of victory echoes through the corridors of Millard West, it not only signifies the triumphs of today but also becomes a timeless melody etched in the school’s history. The band’s back-to-back conquests exemplify the spirit of excellence and the symphony of collective effort. Millard West High School’s musical journey stands as a testament to the power of unity, dedication, and the enduring resonance of passion—a melody that will resonate in the hearts of students and reverberate through the halls for years to come.
