Friday means new music

Multiple artists have new releases

Travis Scott releases two songs this Friday after a long break. Multiple other artists follow Travis’ idea of releasing on Friday.

Friday is arguably the best day of the week, but it proves it is the best when new music comes out. Just like movies, most artists release their tracks on Fridays and listeners welcome these new tracks weekly.

Earlier this week, rapper Lil Uzi Vert dropped his single “Demon High.” At the time it was very close to Halloween so this song matches that energy. It is a very freaky song, talking about demons and immortality. Yet, with this dark side, it was surprisingly a good song. Lil Uzi released his last track about six months ago, so his fans have missed him. This wasn’t released on a Friday, but it can still be grouped with all the other songs.

Texan rapper Travis Scott wanted in on the Friday release date action. Scott released two songs: “ESCAPE PLAN” and “MAFIA.” Both of these songs are very Travis Scott-like. Scott raps for about two minutes straight with the same beat in the background. Most rappers have a change in beat or a feature to change the style of the song. Travis on the other hand strays away from that type of style. Both “ESCAPE PLAN” and “MAFIA” are featureless and filled with autotune. Travis Scott rarely uses his actual voice when recording, so his voice stands out to me. Both songs were alright, but I think they were missing something. I think a beat drop or some sort of beat change would make both songs less boring and keep me entertained.

The next artist that released was NLE Choppa, and he scares me; he always raps about beating people up, so I would stay away from him if I ever saw him in person. Now that doesn’t mean his music is bad, just scary. He released a track with Chicago rapper Polo G. “Jumpin” is a very repetitive three-minute song. I heard the word “Jumpin” more in those three minutes than I have in my whole life. I was very relieved when I heard Polo G come in because he rarely repeats something he said earlier in a song. His feature carried the song and without it, I would probably never listen to NLE Choppa again. Sadly, his feature was just over 30 seconds long and I felt like Polo could have kept going. Overall this song is not for me.

I have been very interested in listening to new artists. Fresco Trey is an upcoming artist with plenty of potential. As he should, he released a single this Friday. “Draft Kings” carried this Friday honestly. Within 10 seconds of “Draft Kings,” I knew I loved it. I instantly added it to one of my few playlists. Fresco Trey is one of few artists that can create a good single without needing a feature. There are multiple beat swings so I stayed hooked the whole song. Fresco Trey released his first and only album a few months ago, and I am already looking forward to more from him.

The final song that made this Friday awesome was “One Right Now” by rapper Post Malone. Recently, Post Malone has been blowing up; he keeps releasing some of his best work. This track does have a feature; Superbowl performer The Weekend made an appearance. Many fans think that this duo is one of the best. Post Malone has a very smooth voice to pick up, and it makes this song just shy of perfection. I personally love the lyrics and the pace of the song but the background beat is not for me. I am a very picky listener though so my opinion may be the opposite of what others think.

Overall Friday was a great day in the music industry. I think all these songs need time to reach the public and a few of them will do very well. In my opinion, I don’t think enough artists released this Friday, but there is always next Friday to look forward to. The best song this Friday was “Draft Kings” hands down and I think it has the most potential to blow up.
