Freshman Tyler Ihm getting his interview taken by volunteer Holley Purcell in the library. Ihm had to get his interview taken as part of a class he was taking. Every student has to get their interview taken as part of Speech and Debate class. “ Talking about myself is probably the hardest part of the Mock Job interview,” Ihm said. “ I felt pretty good during the interview but I was a little nervous.”

Students participate in Mock Job Interviews in the library to complete their oral communications class. The interviews are led by volunteers from the community who shape the interview to mimic that of a real interview.“Speech interviews are a remarkable tool for students to get experience in interviewing for employment, scholarships, internships, etc,” volunteer Susan Hancock said. “It also helps students to complete applications and resumes, another life skill.”

Conversing with a volunteer during her district-required mock job interview, freshman Evalinn Eisel answers the questions given about the fictional job she applied for. Approaching the interview, Eisel came well prepared with the essentials for each interview: her job application, resume and reference sheet. “Overall I think I did pretty well because I was given good feedback,” Eisel said. “I felt it was pretty easy to answer the questions and follow along.”
