Peyten is a sophomore here at Millard West and this is her first year on staff. Peyten is a photographer and is involved in Debate and refereeing sports like soccer and basketball. She is excited to be able to grow in her writing ability during this time on staff.

Not nearly enough schools educate their students about recycling and it's about time we start. Public schools in the United States produce over 14,500 tons of waste every day. That's waste that could have been recycled like plastic, aluminum and steel cans. By recycling, we would lower that number significantly.

Hanging out on the field, junior Zachariah Skeikh pumps up the crowd during the game. He gets to join his fellow Cats as our football players take the field. “My favorite thing about it would be dancing or seeing the game up close,” junior Zachariah Skeikh said. “Also, hanging out with the cheerleaders and dance team is fun.”

During the after-school meetings, Lillian Gentlemen and her group worked on a huge shark poster to match the theme. They worked on the poster for multiple meetings which were two hours long. “I like being involved with the school, l meeting new people and sharing my ideas. Sophomore Lily Gentlemen said.  “We all have our own little responsibilities that we need to fulfill for Homecoming. So for example I made the shark poster so I had to work with a team and make sure it was going to get done in time.”

To keep track of what her students are doing, Spanish teacher Joline Tesar uses Securly in the classroom. Without having to close down tabs or block sites Tesar could focus on the positives of Securly. “We didn’t even know we needed it until it came along, I think just the existence of it keeps students on track,” Tesar said. “It gives me peace of mind and it takes a very large amount of stress off teachers' plates; it's game-changing. “
