Smiling for the camera, sophomore Taylor Barcel makes videos for her many followers on TikTok. She started her account in 2022 and has posted on it twice every day. “I hope that I can reach a huge platform, hopefully, millions of followers, but that’s most likely not going to happen because I think like 1/30 wanna-be influencers fail,” Barcel said. “Either way I hope to keep posting no matter how many followers I get because I’m so passionate about it.”

Holding up a microphone, senior Emma Morley sings with her band, "The Soggy Phillips.” After many rehearsals, she and her band performed at many different venues and got to sing and play together. “My favorite part is jamming out in rehearsal and being surrounded by so many fun people,” Morley said. “We genuinely just have so much fun in rehearsals and while there are sometimes hard conversations to be had, we still have so much fun performing and trying things with music that overpower any of the tough conversations we have.”

Chemistry students are doing their fourth experiment, which is a steaming potion. Smiling for the crowd, former student Kelcey Wetterberg dances for the Dallas Cowboys football team. Wetterberg went from being on the Millard West Dance Team to trying out and making the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders team, where she got to perform in front of thousands. “My favorite part of being a DCC was the impact we were able to make on young girls,” Wetterberg said. “The dancing and glamour was so much fun, but seeing little girl’s eyes light up when they see you in that uniform is something you’ll never forget.”

Cheering on the football team, senior Frederick Mindrup dresses up with necklaces, bracelets and an American flag cape to help lead chants and show school spirit. He and 15 other crazies pumped up the crowd and made the most of the first football game this season. “During football games, we are responsible for the crowd,” Mindrup said. “This means that we need to keep the energy flowing if it seems too mellow. We help lead chants with the cheerleaders and encourage the crowd to get loud.”

Painting a wall of a house, sophomore Jacquelyn Collette is helping her resident redo her house. She and a group of students from other states reconstructed and painted many walls to help her. “My favorite part about mission trips is getting to meet and interact with people that you may not have gotten to know,” Colette said. “I was on a crew with three people from Illinois, one from North Carolina, and one from Canada. It is so cool to see how different you are but you still have so many things in common. I still talk to the people from my trip and think it is amazing how strong of a connection we formed in one week.”

In the first match of the season, sophomore Aubrey Pinkston passes the ball the sophomore Evie Laferla to spike it over the net. All the players competed in a scrimmage starting with the reserve team against the freshman team, and Pinkston played as a setter to try to win the victory. “Volleyball brings me excitement during the games or when we score,” Pinkston said. “On the downside, I may feel pressured and nervous.”
