Two standout seniors, Hayden Hart, and Sierra Pokharel, are making waves in the volleyball world as they prepare to take their talents to the Division I level next year. Throughout their high school careers, both athletes have consistently demonstrated their skills on the court earning them spots on teams next fall.
Hart, a powerful outside hitter, has been a dominant force on the team this year. Known for her explosive attacks and defensive tenacity, she has been a key player in the Wildcat’s success. Her undeniable athleticism along with her strong work ethic caught the attention of several college scouts leading to multiple offers from volleyball programs around the country. She is excited to continue her academic and athletic career at Oral Roberts University next year.
“I chose Oral Roberts because it felt like home,” Hart said. “I connected with the girls so fast, especially when we went to chapel together. That was when I felt God’s presence around me, telling me Oral Roberts was where I was meant to be.”
Pokharel has also been a critical part of the team’s defense as the libero. Her ability to read the game and be there for her team has attracted many Division I teams. She is ecstatic to continue her legacy at the University of South Dakota. Ever since her first visit there, Pokharel knew the girls on the team were the ones she wanted to be around for the rest of her volleyball career.
“I knew from a very young age that I loved volleyball so much and wanted to play it for as long as possible,” Pokharel said. “I am so lucky to have the opportunity to play the next 4 years in college.”
These girls not only credit their hard work to their success but also their coach, Joe Wessel. Under Wessel‘s guidance, both athletes have honed their skills and developed the mental toughness required to be on a Division I team. His dedication to their growth as players has been vital to their accomplishments.
“All of our Wildcats including Sierra and Hayden have always worked to get to where they are today,” Wessel said. “They deserve every bit of success that has come their way and we are all so proud of them. We can’t wait to see what they do next.”
As Hart and Pokharel prepare to embark on their collegiate volleyball careers, they leave behind a legacy of hard work, teamwork, and success. The girls are ready to take on college ball, and their futures are incredibly bright. Their time as a Wildcat has shaped them into strong, driven athletes who are well-equipped to make an impact on their new teams next year.
