Senior Reese Kolar dribbles the ball out the court. Kolar totaled 12 points on four for four shooting behind the three point line, however, with many new faces on the Wildcats team the win means more than personal stats. “For almost all of us, this is our first time playing real varsity minutes,” Kolar said. “It was important to get the first-game nerves out of the way. It feels great to be growing closer together as a team and to get a win. Were learning each others skills and its beginning to translate into success.”

Bouncing back

Boys soccer sat atop the podium in 2009 and 2015, bringing home two State Championships. In 2007 and 2009, the girls soccer team won State, but has been even more dominant in recent years as they added three more trophies to their collection in 2013, 2015 and 2019.

Everyone on this team is a hard working individual. Throughout the year we were just focused on taking one game at a time to get our goal of getting to State.”

High school basketball could be a whole new experience for players and the crowd with a shot clock. It would force a faster paced game, allow schools to touch the ball more, and provide the opportunity to get up a greater amount of shots.

They play Lincoln Pius X in the state tournament on March 9. “It felt like I was on cloud nine for the night,” junior Chase Hultman said. “Celebrating with all of the guys and our friends in the student section was a lot of fun and knowing that we would get a chance to play in Lincoln is really cool, but we still have to approach it as any other game so that we can keep playing in Lincoln instead of being one and done.”

On to State

The team played one of the best teams in the state, Lincoln Southwest, and they provided lots of problems for the Wildcats. When the Wildcats were able to play in the half court they were successful but the Silver Hawks pressure got to Millard West. “We were able to keep the tempo slow and play five on five in the half court where we have a chance,” Kruger said “But when they stepped up the pressure that led to too many easy scoring opportunities.”
