Senior pitcher Dylan Driessen delivers a pitch in the second inning. The Wildcat pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts and didn’t give up any runs. “Our pitchers have not given up a lot of free bases, which is huge for a pitching staff,” head coach Steven Frey said. “Also if we have people on base against us we have been able to pitch out of those situations.”

This off season Novotny worked on blocking out the noise and focusing while on the mound. “One of my biggest focuses this off season has been blocking out everything on the mound and really being able to zone in and focus for the whole time I’m on the mound.”

Millard West would win this game 6-1 to advance to play Millard South in the second round. “Most of us hadn’t really played varsity baseball so we had no idea what to expect,” Borner said. “I think we handled it very well. We went through lots of ups and downs, but played our best ball in the games that mattered the most.”

As the Wildcats prepare for their tough close to the regular season there are many things they can work on. The team needs to learn from their mistakes in the seventh innings of this game and use them to improve. “We need to pitch well and play good defense,” Frey said. “Not give up free bases and make them earn their runs.  We need to produce runs when we have runners in scoring position.”
