Jordan Bakar is a senior at Millard West, and in his second year of being part of the Catalyst team. At Millard West, Jordan is actively participating in various clubs and organizations, such as the National Honor Society. Jordan does a lot of video making, digital design, editing, and photography on the side, as his hobbies. Jordan also enjoys producing YouTube videos on his YouTube channel, “CrewElite” as he loves to connect with fans. This is a great way to share the same interests with similar people, and share ideas. Being able to use and understand how to use complex software and applications gives me new ideas and interests to create something original.

Clamping all the wood pieces together, senior Thomas Detlefsen wanted to get an idea for how his guitar would look semi-completed, without using glue. He just finished sanding the body of the guitar and had few more things to add to it. “Here I finished sanding on my body and decided to dry clamp all my wood pieces together without any glue along with a few pieces of hardware to get a rough idea of what the guitar would look like when it’s finally complete,” Detlefsen said. “After the whole process, it was satisfying to finally see it come together and start to look like a finished project, especially one that so closely resembles the original guitar it’s based on.”

Controlling and stacking up blocks with their robot, juniors Mike Nigrila, Mark Schaffer and senior Luke Hartman participate at VEX State Robotics Championship at Omaha North High School. Their competition was an overall success for Millard Wests robotic teams. “Friday night was stressful, not knowing how the skills competition would pan out for us,” junior Mark Schaffer said, “We had no idea how many points we would make out with, and were a bit anxious.”

Stacking up blocks with their robot, juniors Dominic Zohlen, Andrew Heftie and senior Tyler McCoid participate at their 3rd CREATE competition in Hampton, Neb. During their competition, the team had a few struggles at the start, but they still managed to push through and win a few awards. “We have prepared long and hard for this competition and being able to spend a great time with teammates to present what we are capable of was really rewarding,” McCoid said. “I even got on the news with Channel 4 Hastings to voice out and explain how we performed on this CREATE Competition.”

Doing a clear in a lacrosse game, junior Alexander Rodenbiker (in black) plays lacrosse against the Waukee Warriors. This game was a long and adventurous one, lasting almost three hours. “Playing in the intense summer heat made this game hard,” Rodenbiker said. “I play on the offensive side of my team, which means I have to do a lot of running around the field.”
