Millar West had a hard fought game, although theres room for improvement. They will look over these details and adjust for next week. “Well it was a very tough game, and Lincoln was a well disciplined team,” junior Josh Mclure said. “I think the best take away would be that we need to be more prepared for games and practices.”

The Wildcats celebrate a big win earlier in the season against Millard North. This year the Cats finished with a regular season record of 24-5, and they will be a number one seed in their District tournament bracket, however there is always room for improvement. “I think we need to score more runs in the middle innings,” senior Sam Novotny said. “We usually put up runs in the first and last couple innings but I think it would really help if we could put a few more runs on the scoreboard for the middle innings and put more pressure on the other team.”

Millard West has had a great season thus far, and learned a lot better as a team. Although they have had a steady level of play, there are always things to improve. “One thing the team needs to work on is reading the game better and anticipating where the ball is going,” senior Johnson Lu said. “A lot of the time we’re too slow to react when we know a pass is coming.”

Senior Drew Borner lines a ball into center field for an RBI single to tie the game against Creighton Prep. The Wildcats would go on to win in extra innings. “The Prep game felt like a state tournament game,” Borner said. “We love playing in these games. They mean more and they are just fun to be apart of. Whenever you’re in a game like that, your adrenaline fuels your game.”

Freshman Brady Ferguson delivers a pitch in a game earlier this season against Millard North. On Tuesday, Ferguson tossed four innings, only allowing one hit and one earned run en route to the win. “I definitely could have done a better job with holding the runners on,” Ferguson said. “It [the win] gives me more motivation to keep earning starts and keep doing my thing now that Im finally getting settled in.”

Extending her leg back, sophomore Ella Konwinski kicks the ball to an open teammate. After saving a shot from the Millard North Mustangs, Konwinski tried to move the ball down the field. “Some goals I set this season was to get better and become more confident in every game,” Konwinski said. “Our team has been working on getting to know each other and being comfortable in games and we really showed it in the Millard North game.”

Senior Sadie Millard makes her first stride after starting a race at the state track meet last year. Millard continues to shine in this event, bringing up the rear for the Wildcats. “In order to become a student-athlete at the next level, I’ve really focused on mental and physical preparation,” Millard said. “It’s important to work with coaches and trainers in order to condition your body to get what you want it to do.”

On her third and final attempt in the long jump, senior Sadie Millard jumps 17’3.75”, placing first and earning the girls track team an additional 10 points. Regardless of the 30 mph wind gusts, making it much more difficult to run or jump PR’s, Millard remained determined to succeed and did just that. “This meet I tried to keep a positive attitude before all of my events,” Millard said. “I always try to find a consistent pace that I will be able to maintain throughout the whole race or event. There is a lot I need to work on with my form or consistency, and there’s also room to grow each week.”
