The Millard West dance team holds up their 2nd place trophy at the National Dance Team Championship in Orlando, Florida. The team placed second in both jazz and hip hop routines. “Everyone put out their best performance,” sophomore Molly Kimmey said. “We took in all the considerations from the judges before the final dances and worked on them to make them even better the second time.”

Senior Blake Skoumal, and Junior Adam Hahn were both fortunate enough to place high in the meet. Skoumal secured fourth place with a score of 71, and Hahn was not far behind in tenth, with a score of 75. “Overall I left about four shots out there,” senior Blake Skoumal said. “It makes me look forward to the postseason.”

The Wildcats pose for a picture and celebrate their District Championship after the game. This advances the team to state and they enter in an underdog role but still have an opportunity to take home the title. “At State, anything can happen. Sometimes you go as the underdog and end up winning big,” Aguirre said. “We have to go one step at a time with faith and confidence and try our best, if you do that there will be nothing to regret.”

Millard West would win this game 6-1 to advance to play Millard South in the second round. “Most of us hadn’t really played varsity baseball so we had no idea what to expect,” Borner said. “I think we handled it very well. We went through lots of ups and downs, but played our best ball in the games that mattered the most.”

The Millard West Trap Shooting club attended State in Doniphan, Nebraska. The team and coaches were all very proud of their wins at state this year. Our team had many amazing victories at state this year, and I believe this is the best Millard West has ever shot at state.

Senior Dustin Hatch shoots at state basketball. He played tennis his freshman year, football sophomore through senior basketball all four years and track all four years in order to achieve his Iron Cat award. The biggest challenge with three sports is time, Hatch said. You hardly ever get breaks, especially when you are an underclassman and want to prove yourself.

The team knew previously they played generally worse on this course than most. The fact they placed fourth at this rough course was a great milestone for the team. “Going into the tournament, the team knew that this has historically been one of our worst tournaments, and in years past we have not performed to our best abilities,” senior Blake Skoumal said. “I was insanely proud of the work the team and I put in, and how it showed here.”

Lodice had the go ahead hit to the second basemen that led to the Wildcats winning the game. “Now that we are at the end of the season, I am very excited to see where this team is going to go,” Lodice said. “We are playing very solid baseball right now, and I believe there is good potential in this team to make a run in the state tournament.”

As the Wildcats prepare for their tough close to the regular season there are many things they can work on. The team needs to learn from their mistakes in the seventh innings of this game and use them to improve. “We need to pitch well and play good defense,” Frey said. “Not give up free bases and make them earn their runs. We need to produce runs when we have runners in scoring position.”

Senior Kael Dumont pitching in the 5-2 victory against Millard South in the second round of the Metro Tournament. He pitched all seven innings, only allowing the Patriots to score a total of two runs. “It felt like we were finally clicking as a team,” Dumont said. “The week before we went 0-4, so coming out and beating them on Tuesday and then again on Thursday really helped us gel together.”
