Posters are also displayed around the various parts of the school containing facts about issues women face, like workplace discrimination and sexual assault

Grace Baker teaches this class to students to work at their own pace to gain credits for classes that they had previously failed. This program has existed in Millard at Keith Lutz Horizon High School and in some form at MS, but it has been broadened into the rest of the high schools here in Millard,” Grace Baker said. “We decided to do this in the district in response to the remote learning that has been happening because of the pandemic.”

Members of the symphony orchestra sit waiting to start their next song. “Students, in general, were pleased to have the opportunity to finally perform for a live audience, and I havent heard any complaints regarding the safety of students and audience members at the event,” senior Luke Skrabal said. “I am glad to see that live performances are happening once again because music lifts peoples spirits and provides an escape from the difficulties of life under COVID.”

Strings coming to life

Students continue a Millard West tradition of creating poppy fields in the English hallways during French week. Both members of French club and students enrolled in French class take control of planning and creating activities. “I hope that people look forward to it every year,” French teacher and club sponsor Sarah Karst said. “We see it as an opportunity for the appreciation of the language and simply a celebration of the beauty of the language and the many cultures that accompany it.”

A week in France

Presiding over her class, senior Isabella Reilly plays a teacher zooming in on the projection screen. During the rehearsal process, the cast and crew had little time to become prepared. The show was heavy on props and projection needs, director Brooke Phillips said. We only met twice a week for a few weeks and the actors were able to take our writing from the officers and implement it right away.  Since there was no script, everyone had to be in tune with each of the stories.

Senior Golden Kelly sells chocolate bars in order to raise money for the National Honor Society fundraiser. “The fundraiser is a fun tradition for NHS because it gives everyone the chance to see what it is like to make sales and build connections around the school,” Kelly said. “It is especially exciting because we are selling something fun such as chocolate bars.”
