Standing in front of the Killian Court building on the Massachusetts Institute of Technologys campus, senior Thomas Bigler readies for his upcoming college experience. Back in mid-March, Bigler received an acceptance letter from one of the most exclusive engineering programs in the world. It was at first shock, Bigler said. I couldnt believe I had actually been accepted, and I had just a rush of shock and excitement.

Senior Delaney Cutler cheers on the Wildcats from the sideline. However next year, she will be cheering on the Huskers. Cutler made the University of Nebraska Lincoln pep squad - a difficult feat. “I was constantly refreshing instagram trying to see the post as soon as it came out,” Cutler said. “When it finally did I screamed so loud and ran downstairs to tell my parents. When I was hugging my mom I had to look at my phone again to make sure it was still my name on the list. It’s insane, I cannot believe my name is on that list.”

Millard West alumni Joseph Drwal and Sophie Hill prepare to film Unified Talks, a collaboration between Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools and Nickelodeon. The video will be used in Unified Classroom to teach grades K-12 about how to be an inclusive leader. “I hope that the youth who see this recognize that they have the power to spark change and lead within their school or community,” Hill said. “Everyone brings different skills to the table and has the potential to be a great leader. Its their job to step up and advocate for what they believe in.”

Some seniors are jumping at the opportunity to get a head before going to college by enrolling in general education classes at Metro Community College. Senior Golden Kelly is enrolled in psychology and has been able to apply what shes learned to some of her high school classes. “I started taking classes at Metro because I really wanted to get some of my general credits that I would take as a freshman in college out of the way,” said Kelly. “Taking classes at Metro is just so much cheaper so I saw it as an opportunity to get ahead and save money at the same time.”

I’ve learned a lot of technique and I have shadowed multiple students at the school to get an idea of what life will be like while I’m there.”

Taking on the hardwood, senior Kaitlyn Dickmeyer throws the ball at the NSAA Bowling Championship. With COVID-19 restrictions, this was one of the only times her mother Heidi Dickmeyer could watch her play. “I don’t think she quite grasps how cool it is that she will forever be in the books, in Nebraska’s high school bowling history, as being one of the firsts,” Heidi said. “We couldn’t be more proud of her.”

He hopes to attend the Naval Academy and enter the Navy after high school before he enters the medical field, but for now, he is taking steps to prepare. “Im still working out and working long days, as well as learning different leadership styles and traits from several resources available to me,” Schollmeyer said. “The Naval Academy will give me a Bachelors in science and hopefully the Navy will allow me to pursue a medical career later in life.”

From current fashion trends to something out of Kanyes Yeezy to dressing up like an animal, it all depends on the designer.
