Sitting in the Capitol Building, senior Brooklyn Lech speaks with Don Bacons representative. Lech traveled to Washington D.C. to speak on behalf of the JDRF. I had to apply to be considered for the position, Lech said. I was the only girl chosen to represent Nebraska and the other two were brothers from Lincoln; Alex and Aiden Ourada.

Kevin Mar takes position as he referees for 16th season in college football. Kevin has officiated many games and is a veteran in the industry, with 28 total year under his belt. “This job has granted me with many experiences that I couldn’t get anywhere else,” Kevin said. “I love to travel the country and get the opportunities that I get through the NCAA.”

Junior Lawson Pashia and other scare actors enjoy their time frightening people, playing different characters and bonding with the Bloodrush staff. The attraction is open from Sept. 29 to Nov. 3. “I didn’t want to have a job that wouldn’t give me good memories,” Pashia said. “I am glad I am still young enough to have a job like this where I can just enjoy my time and not have to be serious about anything.”

Waiting for a rebound, senior Michael Bartholomew plays two on two with seniors Luke Wu, Jordan Gassen, and Brady Mar. Bartholomew commonly uses the courts to practice at his dads gym Lifestyle in Valley. My friends and I come out to the gym often to play basketball, Bartholomew said. Its hard to find a time when we are all free but when we can make it happen, we have a lot of fun.

Senior Brady Mar gets put in a box and league mates dump 28 different gross items on him. Mar lost 2 of his fantasy football leagues and had to do some extreme punishments for his losses. “This is probably the worst thing that I have ever had to do, it was so sticky and smelled disgusting,” Mar said. “The spray tan wasn’t as bad as the items being dumped on me but I was much darker and was asked about it too many times to count.”

Gabrielle Wardyn and Waffles pose for a picture after completing his autism awareness service dog training. The week-long assessment and training required a lot of physical and mental training that not all dogs qualify for. Now, Waffles is trained for both outside and inside school-related events. “I immediately saw a change in Waffles behavior,” Wardyn said. “Very alert and aware of his surroundings.”

In the midst of shirt toss, senior Aedan Romero takes flight to launch a t-shirt into the crowd. The crazies were the stars of the show during our Fall pep-rally, leading and getting the school ready for the Battle of Q-Street which took place just hours later. Honestly, I was a little nervous to see how everyone would react to this years crazies, but as we took the stage, everyone was super excited and it ended up being a lot of fun, Romero said. My one goal was to prep everybody for the game, and just simply get the energy going from the start.

With everything they need, juniors Caden Lentz and Casey Olson started their business, C+C Crêpes, this past summer. All the Crêpes are fresh and made on-site at each farmer’s market since the batter only lasts for 48 hours. “We would like to be able to sell more during the spring and fall,” Lentz said. “But because me and Casey are involved in many sports and other activities, we do the majority of our markets in the summer.”

Seniors Logan Moseley, and Nathan Delaney, work on putting together a weekly update for “The Uproar.” With creative freedom and flexibility, the two seniors put on their own twists into the weekly recording. “My favorite part was the customization,” Moseley said. “The HSRP was really fun controlling what played on the air and what I talked about on the air.”

Stacking dirty lunch trays, junior Carson Chesterman keeps the conveyor belt to the dish washing center running smoothly during second lunch. Although a simple task, it provides some major help and a much needed break for the custodial staff to focus on other areas of the cafeteria. “I enjoy seeing my fellow peers also taking on the responsibility of cleaning and helping out around the school as well,” Chesterman said. “I firmly believe that it is everyone’s responsibility to help others out, one way or another.” Photo by Kelsey Nunnenkamp
